Join us at The Swallow Theatre on Sunday 10 December when we’ll be reading the classic play ‘An Inspector Calls‘ by J B Priestley ?
‘An Inspector Calls’, written in 1945, is set in 1912, a time when the catastrophes of the 20th century were unforeseen, and the certainties of social stratification unquestioned. We are at a family dinner party celebrating the engagement of the daughter of the house to a highly suitable young man of slightly superior social status. But complacency is disturbed when An Inspector Calls. . . . . . . .
J B Priestley was a prolific and popular author of novels and plays in the 1930s and 40s. His plays often appear to have a comfortable domestic flavour, but an unexpected, supernatural element soon intervenes, sometimes involving time slippages.
These enjoyable afternoons are great for anyone who wants to share in reading a script, read different character parts or, if you prefer, to simply listen to the reading and learn a little more about the background to the play.
