Every Donation Helps - No matter how small or large
The Swallow Theatre was converted from a ruined barn in 1996, with an agricultural-style roof in keeping with the building.
The roof is going to need major works within the next couple of years and.
As well as the roof covering, the support timbers and insulation board also need treatment, repair and possible replacement.
Although we have done some remedial work, a complete replacement of the whole roof is now probably the best option.
We are starting to plan for undertaking this work. The most important consideration will be to maintain the beautiful acoustic within the building that actors and musicians so love. We also want to have the minimum disruption to our programme, as what we love doing most is hosting shows and welcoming audiences to share this magical and unique venue.
We are currently researching options and the costs involved.
Initial research suggests that we are looking at a cost of up to £35,000 which is a huge amount for us to find.
If we are successful in raising funds we would hope to do the work over the winter at the end of our 2020 season.
Over the next months we will be organising a number of fundraising events and projects.
We invite anyone who would like to, to support our fundraising efforts towards the roof refurbishment.
Donations of whatever size, cheques (made payable to The Swallow Theatre) or loose change, are most welcome and will go directly to the roof appeal.
The Swallow Theatre building is privately owned. It is operated as a theatre venue by a partnership whose two partners are the co-owners of the theatre building.
Our long-term plan is to make the theatre a self-sustaining enterprise, but for this immediate roof project we are asking for help from anyone who loves this place.
